Last Friday, my friends and I decided to change up our Friday night game and attended the After Dark at The Art Institute of Chicago event. This was my first time attending such an event and I fell in love with the concept.

The event was held in the Modern Wing of the Art Institute. The exhibition of choice for this After Dark event was  The City Lost and Found: New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, 1960 - 1980. Complementary appetizers were available, along with a cash bar. There was live entertainment, with dancers dressed as hippies from the 60s and 70s, and a great atmosphere in the air.

The exhibition portrayed the changes of the three major American cities through the years of 1960 to 1980. A time of major political and social changes, and development of modern america was all captured in black and white photographs, architectural sketches, and video excerpts. It was interesting to see how the cities changed from then to now. Chicago especially caught my eye. Just being the beautiful city it is, it was interesting to see how times have changed, and how the unique architecture of Chicago was envisioned and then carried out to what it is today. I might be biased, but the Chicago part of the exhibition was my favorite.

I adore the Art Institute and I can spend hours wandering through its rooms, enjoying every bit of art they offer. Good photography, food, drinks and friends proved to be a great combo for a fantastic Friday night, and we plan to attend the next After Dark event that will be organized, hopefully in the near future.
